Stay Cool with a Waterfall Hike

Dark Hollow Falls is the most visited waterfall within Shenandoah National Park. This is partially due to its close location to Skyline Drive and to Big Meadows Campground. This hike follows a stream all the way to the 70-foot cascade through the shaded forest so it should allow us to stay cool during the heat of the summer.

Hike Details. This hike is rated moderate. While the distance is only 2.0 miles, the return trip to the parking lot is entirely uphill for over 400 ft. It can be a significant cardiovascular challenge. Dogs are not permitted on this trail.

Fees. Please note that there is an entrance fee for this park: $30/car. You can use an annual SNP pass or an America the Beautiful pass for this park. See all the fee details here.

Parking. While there is a parking lot that can accommodate plenty of cars, this is a very popular hike, and the lot often fills before mid-day. For this reason, plus the cost of entering the park, we are organizing carpooling. When you sign up, please indicate if you are looking for a ride or if you are able to provide someone with a ride in your vehicle.

As a reminder, this hike is part of our partnership with Pass to Pass and Inova Parkinson's and Movement Disorders Center, but all are welcome to join us. Because of their generous support, there is no fee to join any of our hikes. Please note that there is a fee to enter this park since this is a national park.

If you are interested in being a support hiker for this trip, or any of our hikes, please email Michelle at Michelle@AIMHumanPerformance.com

PasstoPass is a volunteer-led organization that provides supported backpacking and hiking trips for people with Parkinson’s. You can learn more about their organization and upcoming hikes across the country here.
