Get Back on Track with Your Exercise Routine: Tips for Fall

As summer fades and back-to-school season begins, it's the perfect time to refocus on your exercise routine. Summer often brings vacations, altered schedules, and kids at home, which can shift your priorities away from structured workouts. Perhaps your exercise consisted of outdoor activities like swimming, biking, or kayaking instead of traditional gym time. No matter how you spent the summer, now is an excellent time to reassess your fitness goals and set a plan for the last four months of the year. Here are five tips to help you get back on track:

1. Reassess Your Goals

Summer may have brought changes to your fitness goals, and that’s okay! Take a moment to reflect on where you are and where you want to be. Are your current exercise goals still relevant, or do you need to set new ones? If your goals have changed, outline the actions you need to take to reach them. If your goals remain the same, evaluate your progress. Are you on track, or do you need to make adjustments? This reflection will help you fine-tune your approach and stay motivated.

2. Check In on Your Motivation

After a relaxed summer, it’s normal to feel uninspired about returning to your previous workout routine. If you’re feeling this way, it might be time to switch things up! Explore new forms of exercise or a different approach to achieving your goals. Remember, there’s rarely just one path to success. The key to reaping the health benefits of exercise is consistency, so choose activities you enjoy and look forward to. Whether it’s a new class, a different environment, or a fresh challenge, find what excites you and keeps you moving.

3. Put a Plan of Action Together

One of the best ways to maintain your exercise routine is by scheduling it like any other important appointment. Put your workouts on your calendar, and treat them as non-negotiable. This is especially crucial if you’re transitioning back to the office or juggling new commitments. Plan ahead by packing your workout clothes the night before or prepping meals in advance. A clear plan makes it easier to stick to your routine, even when life gets busy.

4. Seek Out Guidance

If you feel stuck or need fresh ideas, don’t hesitate to seek guidance. Whether it’s hiring a professional trainer, joining a new class, or working out with a friend for accountability, support can help you stay on track. If you’re unsure about your progress, find a reliable tool to measure it. For example, book a session on our InBody machine to assess changes in your body composition and get a clearer picture of your achievements.

5. Schedule a Time to Check In Again

With four months left in the year, set a reminder to check in with yourself around November 1st or Halloween. Use this time to reflect on your progress, reassess your goals, and make any necessary adjustments. Regular check-ins will keep you accountable and motivated as you work towards your year-end fitness objectives.
